Giving my LoE +5/+5 off of one scavenge is way more useful than the +1/+1 he got from that Avenger of Zendikar in the grave if that means the difference between knocking a player out or not. The scavenging is just gravy I'd really only care to use it if I'm going for the kill. This may not apply in your deck, but my Jarad list has a heavy emphasis on saccing creatures (in conjunction with stuff like Savra and Grave Pact), so for me Varolz is a sac outlet that I can easily tutor for and bring back from the grave because he is a creature. Living Death may also be worth considering if you are way behind, it can flip the game around.ĭon't be so quick to dismiss Varolz he is a superstar in my deck. If you must bring creatures back to your hand, look at Genesis. Screw that noise! Off the top of my head, check out Victimize, Phyrexian Delver, and Life/Death. Recursion: A lot of your recursion brings cards back to your hand, rather than directly to the battlefield. Harrow for example looks weak to me, I would to switch it for Yavimaya Granger and/or Yavimaya Elder. This is personal preference, but you may want to consider swapping some ramps spells for more creature ramp. We want creatures in the grave, not instants and sorceries. (Maybe also look into Mindslicer?) Either way, Birthing Pod is a reusable tutor, abuse it.Ĭreature Based ramp: I know you have creature ramp in here all ready, but I always feel like instant and sorcery land fetching cards feel bad when you are playing a graveyard theme deck. It is pretty easy to pod up to Lord of Extinction, although you are kind of short on 4 cmc creatures. You could use the card draw I think.īirthing Pod: This card is killer in Jarad. You draw cards and put dudes in the graveyard. Greater Good: This card has what you need. Here are some things I would suggest for you that work well in my deck: One Bojuka Bog can ruin your whole game plan. I play Jarad, but I don't go too heavy into dredge because I feel it is really risky. Your list looks pretty good you have a lot of interesting cards in here, some of which are regrettably forgotten about in Jarad decks but are really powerful (such as Massacre Wurm). I am looking for input before I finalize the deck and start building it. Fortunately a lot of the creatures that work well with the deck are already quite cheap. The deck aims to be reasonably competitive, with a mid-range budget to match. The end game involves playing MASSIVE creatures like lord of extinction, mortivore, sewer nemesis, splinterfright, and jarad himself and then either swinging for big damage with the creatures themselves, or flinging with jarad. The idea is to spend the early game filling up the graveyard with the many different dredgers such as hermit druid, avenging druid, and the classic golgari dredge creatures, while ramping at the same time. I have been revising a decklist for a while now and I think I have it pretty finely tuned at this point. I think Jarad is absolutely amazing for this, because he allows you to swing for huge amounts to all players with his sacrifice ability, or deal large amounts of commander damage with his scaling ability. As someone who primarily plays multiplayer, I have been looking for a good EDH deck that also works around this theme. Dredge is a favorite mechanic of mine and I love using the graveyard as a resource.
